Norphlet Middle School will be providing new instructional options for families from which to choose while campuses are closed for in-school instruction due to COVID 19.

These new options will begin on Monday, April 6.

Please read through the options and then determine which best meets the needs of your family.  One of your student’s teachers will be contacting your child within the next week to check in with you regarding which plan you are choosing.  Please feel free to ask your teachers any questions you might have regarding the options.

We know that students need structure to their day so we are providing you with a daily schedule that your family can use.  Due to the availability of electronic devices and Internet access, your child may not be able to follow the schedule exactly as listed.

That’s OKAY!

You have the flexibility to rearrange this schedule to best meet the needs of your child and your family throughout this time!

Option 1:  Digital Learning using Web Conferencing and Khan Academy

All students have online access to the following:

  • Gmail
  • Google Classroom
  • Google Hangouts (Web conferencing tool)
  • Khan Academy

Middle school students will meet regularly with their classroom teachers based on a schedule that accommodates all of the core classes.

  • If your child is able to attend the scheduled Hangout, then he/she will be able to interact directly with the teacher.
  • If your child can’t attend the Hangout at his/her regularly scheduled time, then your child’s teacher will record a video of the Hangout and add it to his/her Google Classroom to be watched later.

Khan Academy is a free website that has outstanding instructional lessons your child can use that will help your child review information learned during this school year and reinforce skills which are currently being taught.  Khan Academy has videos with each math lesson which makes it great learning tool to support you, too!

Below are schedules which have been created to support families.  Remember…if your child can’t attend a Hangout at a scheduled time, then a link to the recording of the Hangout will be put in your child’s Google Classroom for you and your child to view whenever it works best for you!

We will post some short videos on the blog this week to show parents and students how to use Google Classroom and Google Hangouts.

We will also post directions for families to create student accounts for Khan Academy this week.

Option 2:  Arkansas PBS

Arkansas PBS is altering its regular television programming to provide age-appropriate educational content for three specific grade bands (PK-2, 3-5, 6-8).  They have created easy-to-follow guides that have activities for students and families to use to practice existing skills, learn new topics, and interact with one another in a meaningful way.

Television programming will be aired at the following times.  (You may set your DVR to record these programs if the times do not work for you and your family.)

  • 3rd – 5th grades: 9:30 am to 11 am
  • 6th – 8th grades: 1 pm to 3 pm

Hard copies of the family guides will be available for pickup each week on Fridays from 11 am – 12:30 pm in the foyer of your child’s school.

Electronic copies of the family guides will also be posted each week on The Buckaroo Blog and on the district’s website for those able to access the family guides electronically.

Thank you, Parents and Students, for the work you are doing at home!  We know this is a huge responsibility.  Together we will have a fabulous last nine weeks of school!
