SNSD Heatlh Services

  • A School-Linked Health Center (SLHC) is primarily located in areas with limited access to health care services. SLHCs are like a doctor’s office within a school and provide a great benefit to students.

Research shows that SLHCs can help a student manage his/her illness at school and, therefore, decrease absenteeism from school and parent’s time away from work as well as fewer hospitalizations and trips to the emergency room.

A student that is healthy and shows up to class is better equipped for academic success!

    WHAT IS THE COST?

Insurances will be billed for services as if your child were seen at the private office of one of our providers.

WHAT IF MY STUDENT ALREADY HAS A DOCTOR?

If a student has a primary care provider, then the SLHC staff will supplement the care that he or she provides. If necessary, SLHC staff will communicate with your child’s primary care physician to make sure that your child receives the best care possible in and out of school.

WHAT KINDS OF CARE DO STUDENTS RECEIVE?

Students may receive primary care and preventative health services such as:

    • Comprehensive physical exams
    • Medical care for acute and chronic illness and disease
    • Prescribing of medication, if necessary
    • Emergency care to anyone in need on school premises
    • Mental health services
    • Dental services
    • School-linked audiology services through Arkansas Children’s Hospital

SO SLHCs AND SCHOOL NURSES DO THE SAME THING?

The school nurse is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school population’s health. School-linked health center staff (which may include a medical doctor, nurse practitioners, dentists, dental hygienists, audiology, or social workers) work in collaboration with the school nurse.
